2013 VGCI Convention Registration Form

The 15th Annual VGCI Convention will be held in Providence/Warwick, Rhode Island, on October 10, 11 & 12, 2013.  The site of the convention will be the Radisson Hotel Providence Airport, 2081 Post Road, Warwick, Rhode Island, 02886.  You must make your own reservation with the hotel by calling 1-401-739-3000.  Mention the Group Code VGCI to get the correct rates of $99/night for a Deluxe Room, Double Occupancy or $119.00 for an Executive Suite, Double Occupancy.  These room rates will be honored October 7-13, 2013.  Make your reservation as soon as possible but definitely by October 1, 2013, the last date these rates are guaranteed.  If you have any questions or problems, please contact Bob Harry at 407-933-7468 or Nancy Tompkins at 814-880-5232.

 

Displays: There will be awards for displays again this year for Best Single Piece, Best Theme, Most Educational, and Best Visual.  Each category will receive an award.  Please consider setting up a display.  We have plenty of room and everyone wants to see your favorite pieces!

 

Swap & Shop: One of best chances you will get to buy or sell glass, Swap & Shop is also a great way to meet fellow Club members and perhaps find a piece for your collection that you may not find anywhere else.  Swap & Shop is conducted from room to room. Participating rooms may list their room number on the easel at the registration desk.

 

Meals: Four meals are included in the cost of your registration fee (breakfast and dinner on both Friday and Saturday).  The times for each meal will be printed in your Welcome Packet that you will receive when you register upon arrival.  There is no discount on convention fees if you decide not to participate in any or all of the meals.

 

Mansion Tour:  Plan to arrive in Warwick on Wednesday, October 9th, so you don’t miss a planned tour of two of the most spectacular mansions in Newport, Rhode Island, on Thursday, October 10th.  For just $39/person we would love to have you join us for a tour of The Breakers and Marble House mansions.  This is a chartered motor coach trip available on a first come first served basis.  The cost includes a round-trip motor coach ride and admission to the mansions.  The bus will depart at 9:00 a.m. and return around 3:00 p.m.  If you would like to preview the mansions of Newport, please visit newportmansions.org.  To whet your appetite, we’ve enclosed a map.  The motor coach will make a prearranged stop at Panera Bread for lunch (at your own expense). 

 

Sandwich Glass Museum & New Bedford Museum of Glass Tour:  Included in your registration fee is a round-trip motor coach ride and admission to the Sandwich Glass Museum (http://www.sandwichglassmuseum.org/) and New Bedford Museum of Glass (http://www.nbmog.org/).  Trip date is Friday, October 11th.  The bus will depart at 8:00 a.m. and return around 4:00 p.m.  We will have approximately two hours of free time to grab some lunch (at your own expense) and explore New Bedford during the day. 

 

Silent Auction:  Here is an opportunity for members to make tax deductible donations of glass for auction to benefit the Club.  If you want to place a piece in the auction but do not wish to donate the proceeds to the Club, VGCI will require 20% of the final auction price as a fee.  If you are planning to bring silent auction piece(s) to convention please let us know what you are bringing so we may properly record each piece and prepare an auction sheet for it.  If you are flying and prefer to ship your auction (or display) items, please ship to:

The Dirty Santa Game:  The Dirty Santa Game has become a tradition at convention.  If you would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift for exchange.  The gift should be either Vaseline glass or a bottle of wine with a value around $20.  If you don’t bring a gift, there are always plenty to purchase during Swap & Shop.  Observers are always welcome too!

 

Fun!  The true measure of success of any convention is how much you enjoyed yourself.  YOU are the key ingredient in making this happen!  Join us as we celebrate our 15th Annual Convention of friends, fun, food, and Vaseline Glass!

 

Cancellation Policy: In the unfortunate event that you must cancel, please notify us by September 10, 2013.  Funds will be returned less a $5 processing fee.  Any cancellations after September 10, 2013, will be forfeited to VGCI as a tax deductible contribution.

 

Transportation:  The area is serviced by Providence’s T.F. Green Airport and 24-hour free shuttle service is provided by the hotel.  The hotel is located right across from the airport. 

 

Registration fees:  The cost of registration includes four meals (two on Friday, two on Saturday), one round-trip motor coach ride (Friday) and admission to both the Sandwich Glass Museum and the New Bedford Museum of Glass, the Thursday evening Soup & Salad social, and speakers.  There is no reduction in the fee if you plan on attending only part of the convention.  All fees are PER PERSON.  Please fill out and mail this registration form along with your check made payable to “VGCI” to our Club Treasurer:
